Printable Cutting Practice Strips

You’ll find horizontal lines, vertical lines, zigzag lines, and curvy lines in this three-page pack. And each page gets a little more challenging to help you meet your learners’ fine motor needs. The cutting strips come in color AND in blackline.

cutting practice strips - cut on the solid horizontal lines to prep

To prep, print onto cardstock. I do not recommend copy paper because it’s too flimsy and can frustrate your learners.

Precut along the all the solid horizontal lines on each page. To save time, just line them up and cut with a paper cutter.

Learners use scissors to cut along the dotted lines. Be sure to keep a small container, bowl, or trash can nearby for trash. If you’ve had your learners work on scissor skills before, you know that cutting practice is rarely neat!

Quick Tip: When teaching little ones how to cut curvy or zigzag lines, show them how to pivot or move the paper as you cut the lines instead of moving the scissors from side to side.

cutting practice strips - formatted for easy printing for multiple learners

If you’re using these pages with multiple learners, I’ve also included these blackline pages, starting on page 11 of the PDF. Instead of all five different patterns on one page, you’ll find one pattern per page. This makes it easier to color code the cutting strips if you’d like.

Optional: To keep your strips of paper under control, you can put them in a plastic organizer box , making sure to place the plastic dividers in such a way that the strips will fit in the box.
